My plan to take a 60 mile drive to visit my younger son was scuppered today but in a good way. He surprised us by turning up at home on his day off. In my current train obsessed mood I suggested a roll along the south coast to Poole for a walk along the quay.
Poole Harbour is one of Europe's largest natural harbours and has some idyllic islands. Today the glinting water looked deceptively inviting.
The quay is lined with typically quaint English pubs. I don't go in them any more but I know where they are.

Yes, I would be delighted to have fish & chips with you.
I see you,
JJ
SilvermOOn - yes a lovely surprise. No *translation* necessary where food is concerned! I like that you could detect the smiles in the day even without seeing them.
JJ - 2 large Cod and chips please. Salt and vinegar on those ma'am?
Yes yes yes salt and vinegar. Thank you.
I see you,
JJ
Love the names of English pubs and the quaint architecture. Good idea to stay out of them though. Great shots!
Boulies - very tactfully put! Yes I like them better from the outside.. The ones on Poole quay are free houses, meaning they are not tied to a particular brewery so can choose their own decoration and style (as well as beer.)
fish and chips? or, as the say up North, chips and fish. always sounds odd that way round doesn't it?
long time since i've been to poole. if memory serves me well it is typical for an english sea port.
I'll take the chips and a bit of that tree, please...
CJ - yes it is typical but of a small port without major shipping.
Anna - tree and chips it is then!
